Disassembling Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

2009-11-8: See this instructable photos instead of my post.

(English version of instruction at the bottom of the post...)

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000

Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000

Instruction
1. Remove the emblem (image of laser?) on the hip? of the mouse. Because of it is glued you can remove it with tip of pin or needle.
2. After removing the emblem, you can see a torx screw (See the first photo). Remove it (I suppose required size of driver is T6).
3. I can't recall precisely, but without the screw you can slid mouse buttons, then unscrew pair of screws under the mouse buttons. Be careful to slid the mouse buttons, they are fixed with claws on the body.
4. Sorry, I can't recall anymore, I hope you get the point from my instruction.

Thanks Hiroshi - this was very helpful for me as I was able to make the scroll wheel really smooth. Now I really like this mouse but before I was almost ready to stop using it as the scroll wheel was so noisy.

Hi Hiroshi. I am wondering if you can help me out. I found your post because I'm trying to disassemble this same mouse (MS Bluetooth notebook mouse 5000) because the power switch below it broke. I see that you have opened it. Can you let me know how to do this? I want to get to the power switch and see how I can repair it.
I would really appreciate it, because I love this mouse, but cannot use it anymore b/c I can't turn it off. Thanks.
Rodrigo.

Hi Rodrigo, I added English instruction at the bottom of the post. However, because of my English writing skill is very restrictive and I couldn't recall the way to do it, you may misunderstand what I mean. If so, let me revise the instruction.

Hi Hiroshi. Thank you for the instructions in English. I had not seen the image where you remove the laser image and reveal the T6 screw. After this I was able to successfully disassemble the mouse, but the plastic piece that moves the actual power switch beneath the board was damaged, so I had to remove it. Now I'll just have to carry around with a paper clip or something to turn the power on/off. But that works for me. Thanks a lot, once again, I appreciate it.

Best regards.

PS. I also took the opportunity to do the same thing you did with the scroll wheel, to soften it and make it less noisier. It feels a lot better now.

Thanks.

I was just taking it apart and decided to leave a full comment in english to help out others.
1. take out the leser emblem from the back of the mouse.
2. use T6 screw driver (or 1.5 straight if you don't have T6, works too) to take out the back screw.
3. carefully lift the back to pull two black side pieces apart either squeezing them from the sides or using a knife to undo hooks inside the battery compartment. do each side separately, would be easier
4. lift the front of each button to undo a small hook under the plastic at the front and you will see a small screw right under it.(i could not remove the buttons, so i just pushed them from the way and used cross screw driver to unscrew.
5. after both screws are done the top will come off easily

NiponTech, Thanks for your comment.
However I cannot understand what you said in the machine translated Japanese.
If you write some english, please do so.
Or I expect that translating from Portuguese to English must be better than to Japanese.

Arigatou Hiroshi!

Segue:
The third step is humanly impossible at this time holds him without running great danger. To avoid dangers in removing the screws from step 4 I carefully lifted the front which hides two screws, note 2 locks, just for them with a screwdriver forward after releasing the two sides force the center to one side and remove the screw, do the same with the other side. Okay, now you can accomplish the passso 3.

Sorry for my bad English.

While buying best ergonomic mouse wrist position, tracking quality, power source, materials and shape are one of the very important points to consider.So think before spending whether it will be useful for you or not.
